Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be on the blog? I’m shy and not sure I want everyone to see my images.

The simple answer is no, you do not. While I LOVE to show my work to my blog followers, I totally respect your wish for privacy. There are many sessions this year that have not been blogged (boudoir session, family sessions, Bar/Bat Mitzvah’s and even 50th and 60th birthday parties).

The great thing about being on the blog is that your post goes up usually a week or two before you receive all your images. I use it as a sneak peak for my clients (you’re excited, I’m excited…let’s see the images already!!!). Plus you can forward the link via email, facebook, etc to your friends and family to get them excited about your images!

I love so many of our pictures! But what should I do with them?

Thank you! I am so happy you love them!

Well there are a few options; do you love 20+ pictures? If yes, let’s make a coffee table album. There are two awesome choices; a magazine style album or a flushmount album which lays flat for wicked two page spreads. Both are totally customizable (you choose the size, the layout style, the cover, etc). We’ll work together to create a one-of-a-kind album for you!

Do you absolutely love just a few pictures and have some empty wall space? If yes, let’s make a canvas, a stand-out or print. Choose to have a simple layout (photo only) or we can jazz the photo up with some amazing borders or designs.

I think I’ve seen you around…but you look a little different than you’re profile picture on your website!

HAHA. Busted. You’re right, I don’t normally wear that much makeup! Here are a few pictures of me in action! (Thank you to Mary and Assaf for the photos of me!). P.S. that was not a question, you’re sneaky!

You say you shoot with natural light, can you please explain what that means?

Absolutely! Basically, I shoot using the light that is naturally available to me (sunlight most notably). This means for indoors shots, I would like to be near a big window and for outdoors…well…we’ll be outdoors!! (usually in a great shady spot, with a few exceptions). I typically do not shoot in a studio with flashes/artificial light. This is a personal preference. I want our session to be about you – places where you usually hang out and places you want to remember down the road.

What do you want me to wear for our engagement session?!

Clothes! Haha.

I never tell my clients what to wear. But instead I’ll ask you, what do you feel comfortable in? If you are a jeans and tshirt kind-of-girl, why are you going to wear a cocktail dress?! You’re photos should be a reflection of you and your fiancé and reflect your personality. I love seeing my couples in bright solid colours, but if you only ever wear black then wear black! I want you to be comfortable. Remember to bring a few outfits so we can get a few looks!

Can we go to a few locations for our portrait session?

Of course! We’ll devise a plan to use our time wisely (let’s not go to Thornhill, then downtown then to Markham!) so we spend most of our session time actually shooting your session.

I’ll be asking you a few questions about what type of setting you would love to have. Are you an urban couple? Then let’s go find something with graffiti, traffic, and spend some time in the city. Do you love grass, trees and everything green? Then let’s go to an awesome park or garden. Do you love coffee? ME TOO! (sorry, that one was random!)

We are planning a wedding outside of the GTA, do you travel?

I love to travel! This summer (2010) I will have shot two weddings well outside of the GTA. Please send me some information about your big day and I will put together a custom quote!

What is this “artistic editing” you speak of? I thought the images on my wedding DVD were already edited.

The images on your DVD are used for proofing purposes, which means I have culled through the photos and slightly enhanced the colours and fixed any exposure issues (hey, I can’t always be perfect!). These images have not been cropped – that happens later!

Artistic editing happens after you have chosen the photos you love. You will give me the file # of your favorites and these images will be edited even further (the number of images you can edit depends on your package!). At this stage we can make some of your images into black and white, sepia, amazing vibrant colours, etc. At this stage we can also do some minor editing at your request (blemish removal, etc).

Check out these photos in case that wasn’t uber clear (left is straigh out of camera...which simply won't do! but to the right is a nice edited photo)
Top is straight out of the camera (no editing) and below is edited :)

I am so excited to see our photos – how long do I have to wait?

I’m excited to show you your photos! Typical turn around time for your session DVD is three weeks.

Why is photography so expensive?

Because it lasts! Unlike the food at your wedding…unlike the flowers…unlike the rented groomsmen’s tuxes….photography is forever (cliché, I know). I was going to write about why custom photography (aka, not a big department store’s portrait studio) is so much more but I came across this great article. It says it all!
